Controls Tools

About the project

Tools for people who work with controls.

Controls Tools is a growing collection of free educational tools for HVAC controls and building automation.

Why this project exists

Controls work connects sequences, signals, equipment, and system response. This project brings those topics into practical browser-based learning tools.

Independent educational project

This project is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by the manufacturers or standards organizations referenced. Source references support the documented methods; they do not certify the tools or approve their use on a particular installation.

Who it is for

BMS application engineers, controls engineers, technicians, HVAC engineers, and students building their understanding of automation.

Available today

Explore five simulators, ten engineering tools and one I/O planner prototype. All tools run in your browser without an account.

  • FCU: independent heating/cooling valve loops and fan staging.
  • VAV: tunable airflow control, reheat and independent airflow/SAT overrides.
  • AHU: air mixing, room-to-SAT cascade and duct static pressure fan control.
  • Pump Lead/Lag: DP control, staging, rotation and fault takeover.
  • Boiler Plant: primary/secondary flow through a low-loss header, HWS control and boiler staging.

All five include playback, selectable trends and recorded-sample cursor values. Their physical models are simplified and not physically validated.

The ten engineering tools cover valve Cv and authority, motor current/sensor range, damper torque, signal scaling, BMS unit conversion, sensor resistance lookup, voltage drop, relay selection and temperature sensor selection. The selectors compare entered specifications; they do not recommend product models.

I/O planner · Prototype / Work in progress

The BMS Point Schedule & I/O Planner helps build, duplicate and assign points, check entered channel counts, and export CSV or project JSON. Manufacturer-specific terminal compatibility is not verified. Download project JSON to keep your work; there is no automatic saving.

What comes next

Current work focuses on browser usability checks and launch preparation. RTU / Economizer and Heat Pump simulators remain future ideas. Product recommendations and commercial integrations have not been added; no release date is promised.
